Swine Flu a'la Japan

This is just bullshit. People are being quarantined, travellers harassed and unnecessary precautions taken. This flu, H1N1, is similar in strength and deadly-ness to the flu that travels the globe each year. No matter what the government says, this is not about saving lives. This is about the pork industry. This is about keeping the flu out of farms so that Japanese people don't stop eating pork. Imagine, if you will, the scene... A pig farm is found to have infected pigs. This would require the culling of an entire farms worth of swine. Hundreds, if not thousands, of pigs killed, piled up and then buried. This image, not unlike those from the Avian flu pandemic, would cripple the pork industry in Japan.

Why the government can't bring itself to be honest about this is beyond me. It is all couched in the language, "These precautions are to protect you and your family."

Hogwash indeed.
